Pastor to 30,000 Passes Away

The flock of a northwest Indiana megachurch is mourning the loss of its spiritual leader.

Bishop Frank Munsey, founder of the Family Christian Center in Munster, died Saturday. He was 80 years old. Munsey had been battling respiratory ailments, according to church officials.

Services are being held at Family Christian Center this weekend, despite Munsey’s death. Church leaders said Munsey didn’t want services to be canceled, the Northwest Indiana Times reported.

“He wanted us to carry on with his ministry,” a pastor at the church told the paper. “He wanted his passing to be a time of joy, not a time of sorrow.”

The nondenominational Family Christian Center claims a congregation of over 30,000 parishioners.

Munsey’s wife, Ruth, and his four children were at his bedside when he died, the church said in a release.

A wake will be held Thursday and Friday, from 3 to 9 p.m.  Funeral services will be Friday at 6 p.m. at the Family Christian Center, 340 W. 45th St.
