With the U.S. Olympic diving trials starting Sunday, June 17, Chicago is going to be very well represented by Wrigleyville's Christina Loukas.
Loukas, who competes in the 3M springboard event, is known internationally as the best American female medal threat, and has been steadily moving up in the international rankings, according to SI.com. She won eighth place in the 2009 World Championship, and moved up to fourth place in 2011.
The 25-year-old is one of the oldest members on the U.S. National Team and brings years of experience to the table. Not only has she won nine senior national titles, but she has also earned such accolades as 2009 NCAA Diver of the Year, 2009 NCAA 3M Champion and Four-Time Big Ten Diver of the Year.
She began competing at the world level in 2008. Loukas became the reigning U.S. Olympic trials champion that year and then went on to compete in the Beijing Olympics where she placed ninth.
The Chicago native grew up around sports, her family owns the Cubby Bear Lounge.
