Funeral Services Set for Palos Park Couple

Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home

Family and friends of a slain Palos Park couple will pay their last respects Friday.

Funeral plans have been set for John and Maria Granat, who were found murdered Sunday morning in their home. Their 17-year-old son, John, has been charged in their murders.

Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home and Crematorium at 7681 S. 88th Avenue in Justice, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The funeral takes place Saturday morning beginning with prayers at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. An 11:30 a.m. mass follows at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palos Hills, and John and Maria Granat will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.

Early Sunday, the couple's son, also named John, called police from the family home in the 12700 block of 81st Court to report the deaths.

The teen was questioned and then charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to the beating deaths of his mother and father. He was denied bail Tuesday.

Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said hours before John Granat called authorities, he was pulled over by police who said his car smelled of ammonia.
