Oprah Crashes Groupon

The Talk Show Queen's devoted fans overload the website after a mention on her show

If Oprah Winfrey endorses it, her fans will buy ...en masse.

The talk show queen featured the Chicago-based online coupon sensation, Groupon, both on her show and on her website.

True to form, Oprah fans flocked to the site in volumes so large it sent the website into shock causing viewers to get "error" messages or slow page loading.

Oprah gave the company a nod on her "Ultimate Favorite Things" show and that was when problems began for Groupon who shortly after tweeted the following from @groupon:

"Hang in there, everyone: big things are afoot at Groupon.com today and we apologize for the site being so slow. We're on it. Updates soon..."

According to a Chicago Tribune report, Groupon confirmed that they were experiencing slowness for users and working to fix the problem as soon as possible.

Today's deal of the day,$25 for $50 at Nordstrom Rack, will be offered all weekend long to make up for the outage according to another tweet by @groupon.

Groupon has the same effect on other businesses who sign up to offer a daily deal through the company. Earlier this year the daily deal led to site problems for Gap.com.
