Online Date Robbed, Locked In Truck: Feds

Woman accused of kidnapping an Illinois man she met online

An Indiana woman was arrested this week after she allegedly robbed a man she met on a dating site and locked him in his truck, federal authorities said.

Diamond Toney, 19, and alleged accomplice, Dedrick Bufkin, were charged this week with kidnapping, federal court records obtained by the Northwest Indiana Times show. They are accused of tying up the victim at gunpoint, robbing him of his wallet and cell phone, and forcing him into the trunk.

Police say Toney met the Illinois man on a dating site called Plenty of Fish. Court records allege Toney arranged to meet the man at 73rd Avenue and Whitcomb in Merrillville, where Bufkin is accused of approaching the car with a gun.

Toney and Bufkin allegedly kept the man in the trunk for four or five hours, according to records, while they made stops at Walmart, Meijer and a gas station.

The man eventually was released as the two allegedly drove off in another vehicle.
