Man Dead After Crashing into Pond Near I-294

The Rosemont Police Department had reported the vehicle stolen

A man was found dead after a vehicle drove into a retention pond early Sunday in northwestern suburban Schiller Park, police said.

About 2:30 a.m., the car was heading southbound on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and exiting onto eastbound Irving Park Road when it left the road and went into the pond, according to Illinois State Police.

The Schiller Park Fire Department brought in a dive team and pulled the man’s body from the water near the submerged vehicle, state police said. He had not yet been identified Sunday morning. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

According to the Illinois State Police, the car is a white escalade. The Rosemont Police Department had reported the vehicle stolen.

The ramp from I-294 to Irving Park Road was closed after the crash, but has since been reopened.
