Officials: Man Sexually Abused Woman on Brown Line Train

A Chicago man has been charged with sexually abusing a woman while riding on a crowded Chicago Transit Authority Brown Line train, police said.

Angel Echevarria, 37, of the 2600 block of North Harding Avenue, was charged with criminal sexual abuse by use of force and failure to register as a sex offender, according to authorities.

Officials say a 25-year-old woman was riding on a southbound Brown Line train from Fullerton around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when a man made “inappropriate contact” with her.

A good Samaritan witnessed the abuse and helped pull the woman to safety, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli, but the man escaped the train at the Brown Line’s Sedgwick stop.

The woman spotted her alleged attacker two days later around the same time at the Brown Line’s Fullerton platform and notified CTA personnel, who called police.

Echevarria was reportedly held in lieu of $250,000 bond.
