Officers Shoot, Kill Man Wielding Knife

Police say the man charged at officers during a domestic disturbance call

Chicago Police early Wednesday shot and killed a man they say charged at them with a knife.

Police said officers responded to the apartment on the 9500 block of South Avenue L at approximately 1:42 a.m. for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived they found Karaka Walls, 24, holding a relative at knifepoint, police said.

The officers were able to talk Walls into releasing the family member, but he refused several commands to drop the knife. When Walls charged at the officers with the knife, they shot him, police said.

Representatives from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office say Walls was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the incident.
