An Illinois State Police officer working on a DEA task force was hospitalized after he was found slumped over the wheel of a car during an operation in Chicago Thursday.
According to authorities, the officer was in a parking lot in the 1400 block of West Randolph Street when authorities found him. He was taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, the man was not a DEA agent, but was a member of a DEA task force. Such teams are usually members of other law enforcement agencies temporarily assigned to the DEA for a specific mission.
Spokesperson Sharon Santiago said it remains unclear what exactly happened.
The parking lot where the officer was found is located behind the Fraternal Order of Police building and across the street from the patrolman’s credit union building.
