A Chicago Police officer was critically injured and four others were injured in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on the South Side.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the 16-year veteran police officer was robbed of his gun and possibly his star after the crash, which happened at the intersection of 98th and Halsted streets about 11:45 a.m.

Three vehicles were involved but the circumstances regarding the crash were unknown as of 4 p.m., News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said.

A police vehicle was involved and an officer was injured.  The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.

An elderly couple and two teens, ages 13 and 15, were also injured, Kubiak said.

Curtis said one elderly person was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious to critical condition, and another to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in serious but stable condition. The teens were taken to Little Company of Mary in good to fair condition.
