Off-Duty Officer Hurt When Gun Accidentally Fires

Off-duty officer recovers after her gun goes off inside her purse

An off-duty Chicago police officer is recovering Friday after her gun accidentally went off inside a South Side nail salon.

Police said the gun was inside the officer's purse at the salon on the 2100 block of East 71st Street Thursday night when it accidentally discharged, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The officer was shot in the leg and taken to John H. Stoger, Jr. Hospital.

It's still not clear exactly how the gun went off.

Nobody else was hurt. The officer is expected to recover.
