President Barack Obama celebrates his birthday in Chicago next month, but this year it won't be the high-roller affair starring Herbie Hancock, Jennifer Hudson and OK Go at the Aragon.
The president plans to ring his 51st year at home in Hyde Park, according to a campaign email sent to supporters by First Lady Michelle Obama.
"Barack turns 51 next month, and there will be a little celebration at our house in Chicago," the email reads. "We'd like to give grassroots supporters an opportunity to join in the fun. You guys deserve it, and I know Barack would personally love to see you there."
The email instructed donors to "donate $3 or whatever you can today" to be automatically entered for a chance to attend.
It's quite a switch from last year's gala for which donors paid between $50 and $35,800, the legal maximum, to attend. It's not clear what the party festivities will include but the email made it sound far more low-key.
"That won't stop me from teasing him about all those new gray hairs he has -- though I think it's fair to say he's earned every one," the email read.
Obama turns 51 Aug. 4.
