The president left his house in DC...but his visit to Chicago won't include a trip to his Hyde Park home.
The President has come home today.
But President Barack Obama didn't even get to his house in Hyde Park. Instead, he headed to the North Side, making his first hometown stop at a Lincoln Park mansion for a private fundraiser at the home of Penny Pritzker. Pritzker was the national finance chairwoman of Obama for America.
After landing in O'Hare, weather put a stop on taking Marine One to Lincoln Park, so traffic was backed up on the Kennedy as he made his way there in his motorcade.
He'll then head downtown to the Hyatt Regency Hotel for his first political event in Chicago since Election Night. Likely traffic delays will result again, but hey, he's the president.
A reception being called, "Welcome Home, President Obama: The Democratic National Committee and Organizing for America Invite You to Join President Barack Obama," offered tickets ranging in price from $250 to $2,500, and among those on the guest list are local sports celebrities Coach Lovie Smith and QB Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears, and BJ Armstrong, former point guard for the Chicago Bulls.
Organizers say that, in keeping with the president's commitment to grassroots organizing and bringing more people into the process, he’s hosting the reception, with music to be provided by DJ Cassidy — "one of the hottest DJs in the country, tearing up the club scene from Miami Beach to New York," according to a press release.
Prior to landing in Chicago, Air Force One took Obama and his campaign for health care reform to Cleveland.
The president toured the Cleveland Clinic with Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland. Obama has cited the clinic as an example of a health care system that works well.
In addition to the clinic tour, the president will be leading a public forum at nearby Shaker Heights High School. Watch it live here at 1 p.m.
