A nursing assistant at a retirement community is accused of punching an 85-year-old female resident, police said.

Police said they received a complaint Thursday from Clare Oaks Retirement Community, 829 Carillon Drive in Bartlett, as they reported a battery that occurred to an 85-year-old resident.

Police said the incident happened around 8 a.m. that morning when nursing assistant Marquita Howard-Myles, 29, allegedly punched the victim in her chest.

Following an investigation, Howard-Myles, of Addison, was charged with felony aggravated battery.

No further details were immediately available, but the victim did not require additional medical treatment, police said.

A spokeswoman for the Clare Oaks Retirement Community said the employee was terminated and the resident's son is pressing charges against the nursing assistant.

“We are grateful that the resident who was involved in an unacceptable situation with a CNA on Thursday, August 29, was not harmed," Executive Director of Clare Oaks Beth Welch said in a statement. “We continue to work with the Illinois Department of Public Health to ensure a thorough investigation of this isolated incident."
