More Tax Prep ID Thefts Reported
Police Investigate Nearly 30 Cases of ID Theft by Tax Preparers
The most recent victims allege that they filed their 2008 returns at the office at 3932 Main Street They explain that they were all notified that the IRS
had rejected their 2009 return because their social security number had already been used.
Officials at the H&R Block district headquarters in Merrillville
said the company is currently investigating the allegations.
Police advise those who believe they are victims of tax preparation fraud to fill out an IRS Identity Theft Affidavit, which can be picked up at the James Knight
Public Safety Facility at 2301 E Columbus Drive in East Chicago.
