1 Dead, 1 Critical in Northwest Side Fire

An early morning blaze shut down parts of Belmont Avenue

    A man was killed and a woman in critical condition after an early morning fire in a Northwest Side bungalow, the Chicago Tribune reports.

    A man on a bicycle rescued two other women from the house, according to the Tribune.

    The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. at 3118 N. Kilbourn in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood.

    Fire crews called in seven ambulances and shut down parts of Belmont Avenue for a short time. The man who died and his sister were taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

    The cause of the blaze is still unknown.

    Earlier this morning, firefighters rescued two men from a fire on the West Side that broke out around 1 a.m. The men suffered smoke inhalation and are in critical condition at Resurrection Hospital.

    Crews found the men after they ran back into the home after the fire started.
