No Watch Parties Scheduled for Wrigley Field, OEMC Says

While the Cleveland Indians have been busy selling out watch parties at Progressive Field for the last three World Series games against the Chicago Cubs, fans hoping for a similar experience at Wrigley Field are going to be disappointed.

As of Monday, there are no plans for the Cubs to host watch parties for Games 6 and 7 of the World Series at Wrigley Field, according to the Chicago Office of Emergency Management & Communications. The Cubs didn’t host watch parties for the first two games of the series either, and it would appear that the team is not going to host any event at the Friendly Confines.

This news is contrary to reports earlier on Monday that the team was planning to host parties at the Friendly Confines, but those reports were refuted by OEMC and the Chicago Police.

All three watch parties in Cleveland during the World Series were sellouts, with fans watching the game on giant screens at Progressive Field. All profits from the tickets sold to the event, which ranged in price from $5-24, will be donated to local charities in the Cleveland area.

The Cubs obviously would not have been able to host any such parties in the past, as video boards were just added to Wrigley Field before last season. This year the team has not held any parties despite the new boards, and it appears that it will continue to refrain from doing so.

According to Cubs spokesman Julian Green, there will still be an increased security and police presence around Wrigley Field even without a watch party, as fans are expected to descend upon the Friendly Confines during Game 6 and Game 7, if necessary.
