No New Trial for 87-Year-Old Who Lost to Trump

A federal judge in Chicago has refused to grant a new trial to an 87-year-old who claimed billionaire Donald Trump cheated her in a skyscraper-condo purchase.

Jacqueline Goldberg had sought damages totaling $6 million from the "The Apprentice" star in the civil case involving her purchase of two condos at Chicago's Trump International Hotel & Tower.

In rulings filed Friday, Judge Amy St. Eve says Goldberg's motion for a new trial was "riddled with unsupported accusations." She also ordered Goldberg to pay $48,000 to Trump to cover part of his legal costs.

Goldberg attorney Shelly Kulwin says there's a "significant chance" his client would appeal.

Trump spokesman Alan Garten says the jury decision combined with the judge's post-trial rulings amount to "complete and total vindication" for Trump.

In May, jurors rejected Goldberg's allegation Trump defrauded her by reneging on a profit-sharing proposal after she committed to buying the properties.

Trump's lawyers argued Goldberg signed a buyers' contract giving him rights to withdraw the offer.
