No Injuries Reported After Dome Collapses at Rosemont Ballpark

A dome at a ballpark in a northwest suburb of Chicago collapsed during severe weather Sunday while a game was supposed to be underway.

No one was inside the dome when it collapsed, but photos of the scene at the Dome at the Ball Park in Rosemont, located at 27 Jennie Finch Way, show the dome deflated with people gathered outside.

The Chicago Bandits, a professional women's softball team, was scheduled to play a game at the park Sunday afternoon, but they tweeted that they experienced a weather delay around 3 p.m. They later cancelled the game.

Moments before the collapse, strong winds, hail and rain were reported in the area.

The structure, which has an air-suspended covering approximately 75 feet high, 565 feet long and 250 feet wide, collapsed due to the severe weather, according to a release from the Rosemont Public Safety Department.

Steve Jankowski, a video board technician for the Chicago Bandits, said no one was injured in the collapse.

The Chicago Bandits tweeted that everyone was safe and accounted for following the collapse, but the ballpark experienced some damage.

The official cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
