Newly Released Video Sparks Investigation of Chicago Police Officers

Newly released video of a violent encounter has sparked an investigation into two police officers and their use of force, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The incident occurred in May 2011, when a McDonald's in the 5600 block of W Irving Park Rd was robbed at gunpoint.

Dashcam video released by the Chicago Police Department shows officers pursuing a black Lincoln Town Car after the robbery. The video shows an officer approaching the car after it stops, gun drawn, as a woman emerges with her hands up. The officer grabs her by the hair and pulls her to the ground as officers gather around before she is eventually led to the back of a squad car.

The Department released ten videos of the incident, as well as audio files and multiple police reports, as part of new superintendent Eddie Johnson's promise to "rebuild trust between CPD and the community," according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

"The superintendent found that the officers’ actions in apprehending one of the offenders – who is now serving time in jail -- concerning," the statement reads. "As a result, he has requested the use of force investigation to be reopened and has stripped two officers of their police powers pending the outcome of an independent review."

The suspect in the video, Tiffani Jacobs,  is now serving 12 years in prison for armed robbery. Floyd May, who was in the car that night but fled, is also in jail.
