Neo Nightclub to Move to Wicker Park's Debonair After Losing Lease

A Facebook post from the club cited a "legal quagmire" as the reason for the move

One of the longest running nightclubs in Chicago will be moving out of its well-known Lincoln Park location to share space with another club in a different neighborhood.

Neo, located at 2350 N. Clark St., announced it will move to Debonair Social Club in Wicker Park next month in a humorous Facebook post Friday. The post cited "a legal quagmire" that followed the passing of the club's owner earlier this year as the reason for the big move. The club first opened in Lincoln Park in 1979.

In another Facebook post, bar manager Dann Szymczak said the club lost its lease on Clark Street but is not closing.

"Whether this means an agreement can be reached with our Clark Street location that, after years in tenant purgatory puts us in the position to finally make the long-needed repairs and upgrades we had been planning, or whether this marks the time for Neo to make our home somewhere new, one thing will not change: Neo will be a part of Chicago's nightlife," Neo's Facebook post said. "We will be a home for this city's family of amazing people and personalities who deserve a safe space to be themselves and we will stick together."

Beginning Aug. 6, Neo will take over the whole space inside Debonair every Thursday night, according to the Facebook post. Neo will also claim at least half of the club space on Fridays and Saturdays to hold their weekend events, such as Nexus 6 and Helter Skelter.

Neo is expected to release official information on the move to Debonair Friday night. Debonair Social Club is located at 1575 N. Milwaukee Ave.
