Navy Pier's Winter Wonderfest Opens for the Season

Navy Pier's holiday festivities kicked off Friday, as Winter Wonderfest opened its doors for the 16th year.

The festival spans 17,000 square feet, bringing both new and returning winter entertainment and activities to the city, including the Chicago Blackhawks indoor ice skating rink and the inaugral tree lighting at Polk Bros Park.

Other events include the annual Christmas Tree Ship ceremony -- the yearly tradition of delivering Christmas trees from Michigan to Chicago -- and Jingle Jamz, a caroling series put on by the festival.

Winter Wonderfest will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The festival runs through January 10, 2017, and tickets are available for purchase online through Navy Pier's website.
