Navy Pier Named Among Worst Tourist Spots to Get Your Phone Hacked

Navy Pier may be a popular attraction for tourists, but it’s also a top spot for hackers, according to a new report.

Skycure, a cyber-attack prevention company, released a list of the world’s worst tourist attractions for mobile security, and Chicago’s Navy Pier came in at no. 11 on the list.

The report claimed cyber-crimes are concentrated in areas of high traffic, particularly the world's top tourist destinations.

Other destinations included Times Square, Disneyland and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Experts said wifi-based attacks were most common in the high-trafficked areas, allowing cyber criminals to capture personal and work information.

Skycure recommended avoiding “free wifi networks,” updating your device to the most current operating system, reading the warning on your device and disconnecting from a network if you phone begins behaving strangely.

Navy Pier did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
