Naval Recruit Dies at Great Lakes

19-year-old passed out during boot camp training

A 19-year-old man died Wednesday morning while in boot camp training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, training officials said.

Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey told the Sun-Times the recruit passed out after finishing a physical training run and was taken to the Captain James Lovell Federal Heath Care Center.  

Doctors there pronounced him dead at 9:57 a.m.

The recruit’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Naval Service Training Command confirmed in an email the incident is under investigation.
