Naperville Girl Makes Doodle 4 Google Finals

A Naperville third grader took the top prize for Illinois in Google's Doodle contest.

Nine-year-old Yina Wang of Peterson Elementary School received the news at a surprise school assembly Tuesday attended by Mayor George Pradel and Google executives.

Her doodle, entitled "The Tree Planter," was chosen from tens of thousands of entries.

The Doodle 4 Google contest is open to students from kindergarten to grade 12, and tasks entrants with redesigning the Google logo using the theme "If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place."

Online voting will be in place through May 9, an awards ceremony is scheduled for May 21 at Google's California headquarters, and the winning design will be placed on Google's homepage on June 9.
