“Mummy Bandit” Robs Fourth Bank

FBI: Bandit robbed North Community branch on Division Street on Tuesday

A man displaying mummy-like characteristics robbed a West Town bank Tuesday, marking at least his fourth crime committed in the Chicago area.

The man dubbed the “Mummy Bandit” by the FBI due to his covered head and face seems to have a preference for North Community Banks.

He robbed the North Community branch at 2000 W. Division St. on Tuesday and at least three other branches since December, police said.

The robber is described as a white male between the ages of 27 and 30 who stands about 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs about 230 pounds. He wore a construction vest during one robbery and has had his face and head covered by a scarf and hat in all four.

The man is also said to carry various items during each robbery, including stuffed toys and a bucket.

There have been at least 30 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year, according to the FBI. In 2012 there were 218.

Anyone with information should call the FBI at 312-421-6700.
