Movie Based on “Good Times” in Development

Sony Pictures working on film based on '70s sitcom set in Chicago

Some "dy-no-mite" news for fans of the 1970s sitcom "Good Times."

Sony Pictures is reportedly turning the iconic show into a feature film.

According to Deadline.com, Sony is working with producer Scott Rudin and writer Phil Johnston (Wreck-It Ralph, Cedar Rapids) on the film, which will be set in the 1960s.

"Good Times" was on on-air from 1974-79, and featured a family of five struggling to make ends meet while living in the Cabrini-Green high rise projects.

Although the show was set in inner-city Chicago, it was actually produced in Los Angeles.

Jimmie Walker was the breakout star of the show, playing a character named J.J. with the catch phrase "dy-no-mite!"

The series was developed by Norman Lear (All in the Family, The Jeffersons) and was a spinoff of the sitcom Maude.

There's no word on when the film is scheduled to go into production, or whether it will be filmed in Chicago.
