FYI: Don't Tell A Cop You're A Cop When You're Not

Driver says he's an officer with the Sheriff's Department

Police came upon more than they'd expected when they were called to the scene of a traffic accident in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

James Washington, 46, was involved in a crash with another motorist and, before police arrived, Washington apparently told the other driver that he was a law enforcement officer for the Cook County Sheriff, according to a police report.

Now, Washington is charged with felony false impersonation of a peace officer and driving without insurance, according to a police report.

This isn't his first felony charge, either.

Washington allegedly has an extensive arrest history with Chicago Police and is a convicted felon, according to the report.

While Washington was sitting in his vehicle, an officer allegedly saw him wearing a bulletproof vest and a gold, six-pointed star on his belt. He was taken into custody at the scene, according to the report.

He was ordered held on $250,000 Wednesday.
