A Hoffman Estates woman is charged with misdemeanor child endangerment after police said she left her 3-year-old son in the car while she shopped.

Aixin Li, 43,  allegedly left her toddler son buckled into his child seat while she went inside a Village Discount store, according to the Courier-News.

A police report says she left the boy inside the locked vehicle for about 50 minutes.

The temperature outdoors was in the mid-20s at the time of the incident.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene, as was the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

DCFS took the boy into protective custody and turned him over to his father.
