Metra Train Hits, Kills Man

Death ruled an accident

A Metra train struck and killed a man in south suburban Hazel Crest early Sunday morning.

An autopsy has ruled his death an accident.

The man, who is estimated to be in his 60s, was hit by an inbound Metra Electric District train at the Hazel Crest station shortly after midnight, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. The station is located at Park Avenue and 170th Street, according to the Metra Web site.

An autopsy Sunday determined the still-unidentified man died of multiple injuries when the train struck him, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The man was dead at the scene.

The train -- the last inbound train of the night -- left University Park at 11:40 p.m. The incident delayed service by nearly two hours, Miller said.
