McHenry Man Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize on First-Time Purchase

The man says he'll use his winnings to buy a new house

A northwest suburban man won a $100,000 lottery prize on his first try with the game.

Kent Pleva said he usually buys a $1 or $2 instant lottery ticket once a week, but he decided to buy one $10 Million Cash Bonanza ticket at Convenient Food Mart, 2126 W. Algonquin Road in Lake in the Hills, according to a statement from Illinois Lottery issued Feb. 12.

Pleva scratched the $30 ticket at his McHenry home and saw he’d won. Married with three children, Pleva said he plans to use the money for a new house.

“We’ll definitely stay around McHenry,” Pleva said. “I’ve lived here all my life and we love this area.”

The store received $1,000, or 1 percent of the winnings.
