Mayor Announces 4G Coverage Coming to CTA by End of 2015

The mayor's Chicago Infrastructure Trust made a deal with T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon so riders will not have to pay for 4G coverage

Good news for CTA riders who use their cell phones while in transit.

The mayor announced Friday that by the end of the year,  the entire CTA subway will have 4G wireless coverage through four major wireless carriers -- T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon -- by the end of 2015. The carriers will cover all costs, so the service will be free to riders.

The project is funded by the mayor's Chicago Infrastructure Trust, which leverages private investment for infrastructure projects meant to modernize the city.

This latest CTA project comes after Mayor Rahm Emanuel implemented other technology-related changes in the past three years, including adding train tracker screens to all rail stations and expanding the security camera network.
