‘I Might Have to Go Somewhere Else': Matt Forte Opens Up About Contract Frustrations Ahead of Season Opener

Forte, entering his 8th season and one of the bears most prolific offensive players ever is still a little hot under the collar that the team didn't see fit to give him a contract extension

Just days before the team’s season opener, Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte didn’t hold back to NBC 5's Mike Adamle when it came to expressing his disappointment over his current contract situation.

Forte, entering his 8th season and one of the Bears' most prolific offensive players ever is still a little hot under the collar that the team didn't see fit to give him a contract extension.

"It’s just kind of discouraging as a player," Forte said. "You know, I’ve been here 7 years – going on 8 – and [I’ve] been producing at a constant level, year after year."

"For them to not want to do an extension, which would obviously extend my career in this city, it’s just kind of discouraging because you feel like the guys that do that should be rewarded," he continued. "It’s a production based industry, so if you produce you should be rewarded with that."

Although he stayed quiet about the situation during training camp and in the preseason, Forte had no problem standing strong on the idea that it might be his last wearing a Bears jersey.

"But that doesn’t always happen so I’ve come to the realization that this might be my last year here, so I’m gonna make it the best year I can possibly make it. So if I’m a free agent at the end of the year I might have to go somewhere else. If it comes down to that," he said.
