Bomb Threat Leads to Closure of Loop Federal Building

A male phoned in a bomb threat to the Kluczynski Federal Building at 230 S. Dearborn about 7:15 a.m.

U.S. Marshals who evacuated some floors of a federal building in the Loop and sealed off the surrounding area following a bomb threat Thursday morning have now closed the building for the day.

A male phoned in a bomb threat to the Kluczynski Federal Building at 230 S. Dearborn about 7:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.

Security guards told workers early Thursday afternoon that the building was closed for the day, the Sun-Times is reporting.

The building was partially evacuated and Federal Plaza sealed off with police tape early in the morning. The entire block around the building was then temporarily closed to pedestrian traffic.

As of 11:45 a.m., virtually all of the closed sidewalks were reopened, but the Kluczynski Building remains closed.

The U.S. Marshals Service is investigating, and has bomb-sniffing dogs at the building and the Dirksen Federal Courthouse across the street.

No injuries have been reported, Sedevic said.
