Kankakee Man Living in Squalor With 13-Year-Old Faces Child Porn Charges

A Kankakee County man faces child pornography charges after a search of his home turned up images on computers and other electronic devices, and a 13-year-old child living in “squalid” conditions.

Mark V. McKune, 36, of Bourbonnais, was charged this week with eight counts of child pornography in Kankakee County Circuit Court, according to a statement from the Will County state’s attorney’s office.

McKune had become the target of an investigation by Will County’s High Technology Crimes Unit after detectives in Kankakee County reached out for assistance with an investigation into the downloading of child pornography, prosecutors said.

Investigators served the warrant at McKune’s house in the 0-100 block of Bonds Avenue in Bourbonnais and found “squalid” conditions, prosecutors said. Bourbonnais code enforcement authorities were called and the house was deemed uninhabitable.

A 13-year-old child was found in the house, and has been placed in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The child is now living with other family members, prosecutors said.

Investigators seized computers, cell phones and other digital storage devices during the investigation, prosecutors said.

McKune has been ordered held at the Jerome Combs Detention Center on a $100,000 bond, according to the Kankakee County sheriff’s office.

Will County will co-prosecute the case with Kankakee County. McKune faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
