Man Dies in Roadside I-55 Hit-and-Run

A man was waiting for a tow truck when he was struck by another vehicle

A stranded driver standing on the shoulder of the Stevenson Expressway was struck and killed Thursday night in a hit-and-run.

Enrique Lopez was waiting for a tow truck on the northbound shoulder of I-55 at Damen Avenue around 10:10 p.m. when a car hit him and drove off, police say. Lopez's car apparently had been disabled.

Lopez was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious conditions and was later pronounced dead.

Police found the pickup truck involved in the incident but didn't confirm they've identified a suspect. No charges have been filed.
