Man Who Taped Up Daughter Sentenced to Probation

Andre Curry ordered to attend parenting classes

A Chicago man was sentenced to 18 months probation Friday for taping his daughter's wrists, ankles and mouth, and posting a picture on Facebook.

Andre Curry also was ordered to attend parenting classes.

Curry was convicted of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery in October, but was acquitted of unlawful restraint charges. The judge reduced the felony charges to a misdemeanor on Friday.

Curry said he and his 22-month-old daughter were just playing around when he posted the picture in December 2011, along with a caption that read "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back" and a smiley face.

Following the hearing, Curry told reporters he thought the punishment was fair and that he plans to stay away from Facebook.

"From the bottom of my heart, I'm very sorry," Curry said, flanked by his lawyer, mother and pastor. "I just want to do great things."

Curry could have faced up to seven years in prison if he was convicted.

He now has a new job and at some point will be reunited with his daughter.

"When I see her.. I'm going to pick her up and throw her in the air, catch her and spin her around," Curry said.
