Man Who Cursed At Daley Sentenced To 3 Years

Janusz Kopycinski

The man who cursed at Richard M. Daley on the former mayor's last trip out of city hall in 2011 was sentenced Friday to three years in prison.

Janusz Kopycinski, 31, was found guilty at a bench trial and told Cook County Judge Thomas Gainer he didn’t intend to do any harm, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Kopycinski was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery of a police officer May 13, 2011, after he yelled “F*** the mayor” at Daley and spat on people as they waited to greet the mayor.

Kopycinski then took off running and a police officer ran after him. The officer who gave chase was grazed by a Chicago Transit Authority bus and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Kopycinski was convicted of aggravated battery and resisting arrest in April.
