Man Shot by Police Found Hiding Under Bed in West Side Home

The suspect was found hiding under a bed in the residence while several people living there were still home

An armed man who was shot and wounded by a Chicago police officer after he waved his gun at authorities was found hiding under a bed in a West Side home Monday night.

Just before 10 p.m., Area North Gang Enforcement officers were on a gang suppression operation in the 1000 block of North Laramie Avenue in the city’s Austin neighborhood when they saw a man suspicious man. When officers tried to question the suspect, police say he took off on foot.

While being chased on foot, he pulled out pointed a gun at officers, police said, prompting one officer to open fire and shoot him in the arm. The suspect continued to run after being struck by the bullet and fled looking for a place to hide, according to police.

As police were searching the area for the suspect, residents who live in a multi-unit building in the 900 block of North Laramie told them they believed someone had broken into their home.

The suspect was found hiding under a bed in the residence while several people living there were still home.

No officers were injured in the incident, and a gun was recovered from the scene where the man was found hiding.
