Man Shot, Killed in Front of Girlfriend

The man's girlfriend wasn't hurt, says police

A deadly shooting killed a Chicago man while he and his girlfriend stood outside in Washington Heights on the South Side.
 
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Victory Island, of 7000 block of South Chappel Ave.
 
Island, 27, was shot in the 9900 block of South Carpenter Ave. around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, said police. 
 
The man received a phone call on his girlfriend’s cell phone. Then two hooded men came out of a gangway and opened fire, hitting Island, according to police.
 
His girlfriend wasn’t hurt.
 
Island was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
 
Police suspected the call concerned a drug deal. However, it remains unclear if the call and shooting were connected, the Chicago Tribune reports
 
Police are investigating.
