Man Shot By Police During Englewood Chase

Police said the man turned and pointed a gun at officers during the chase

A Chicago officer shot and wounded a man in Englewood early Thursday after police said the man pointed a weapon at the officers during a chase.

Police News Affairs said officers responded around 2:15 a.m. to shots fired in the area of 6700 South Morgan and saw a vehicle speed away through an alley.

As officers followed the vehicle, police said the suspect left the vehicle and started running with a gun in his hand. As officers chased him on foot, police said the man at one point turned and pointed the gun at officers.

An officer shot back, striking the man, police said. He was transported to an area hospital.

The Independent Police Review Authority is reviewing the incident. No officers were injured.
