Man Walks into Police Station with Rifle, Arrested

A man who walked into the Harrison District station with an AR-15 assault rifle said he was turning it in

A man walked into a West Side police station early Thursday morning with a loaded assault rifle and said he was turning it in, Chicago police said.

News Affairs said the 28-year-old man walked into the Harrison District station with an AR-15 assault rifle just before 4 a.m. He did not point the gun at anyone, police said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. His name has not been released, and
he was not arrested as police initially indicated.

The weapon had a loaded 30-round magazine, police said.
