Man Pleads Guilty to Murder of Pregnant Wife

He faces up to 140 years in prison

A former Downers Grove man pleaded guilty Friday to the 2010 murder of his wife and unborn child.

Eric Gilford,36, entered a guilty plea in DuPage County Court., according to a press release  from DuPage County State's Attorney. He will be sentenced August 16 and faces up to 140 years on prison.

On May 26, 2010, Gilford stabbed his pregnant wife, Kristine, in the Villa Park home of an acquaintance, according to authorities.

The couple's 4-year-old daughter witnessed the murder but was left unharmed.  

Gilford then fled the scene but was apprehended by authorities on August 6 in Jackson, Wyoming, the release said.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert E. Berlin said Friday "This morning, Eric Gilford took responsibility for the murder of his wife and her unborn child, His actions not only took the life of his wife and an unborn child who never got the chance to live, they also took a mother away from a 4-year-old child who will now have to live her life without the love and protection that a mother provides."
