Man Missing After Swim Found Walking in His Underwear

Crews suspended their search until all storms passed through the area

The search is over for a man who went for a swim and was suspected missing in a canal in southwest suburban Summit. Police said he was found Thursday morning walking on an embankment in his underwear.

The man, whose name has not been released, went missing near Route 171 and I-55 after he apparently decided to go for a swim. Summit police told the Chicago Tribune he was drinking with two friends at the Port of Summit boat launch when he took off his clothes and went into the water for a swim.

His friends lost sight of him after a barge came by, and they called police.

Emergency crews searched with flashlights on boats until rain started to fall. Search crews decided to hold off their search until all overnight storms passed through the area.

The man was spotted around 6 a.m. Thursday.
