Man Killed in I-57 Rollover

A 29-year-old man was killed Saturday in a rollover crash that shut down lanes of Interstate 57 on the city’s South Side.

The man, driving in a 2000 Ford Explorer, was heading northbound on I-57 near 99th Street around 1:30 a.m. “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control, according to Illinois State Police.

The veered right and struck the right side guard rail and rolled over, police said.

The driver was ejected from the SUV and sustained fatal injuries. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Lanes were shut down on I-57 northbound at 99th Street for more than three hours following the crash.
