Man Killed in Drive-By Outside Popular Pilsen Restaurant

A man was killed and another was wounded in a deadly drive-by shooting outside a 24-hour restaurant in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood Tuesday night.

Just after 11:40 p.m. two men were outside the popular Express Grill at 800 W. 18th St. when someone opened fire, police said.

For hours, the body of a 43-year-old man remained in the middle of 18th Street after he was shot in the chest and died on the scene.

The other victim, a 35-year-old man suffered a gunshot to the knee and was transported to Cook County’s Stroger Hospital.

A cashier at the Express Grill told NBC 5 that four men were on the corner about to put in an order when a silver SUV pulled up and started shooting.

Stunned neighbors were enjoying the nice night before hearing the gunshots ring out.

“I was sitting on my couch but I had my balcony door open and I heard five or six shots,” one said. “I thought they were fireworks but then I realized they were gunshots and I heard a car speeding away.”

As of Wednesday morning, police didn’t have a suspect or know of a motive in the shooting.
