A man was killed this morning after a CTA Blue Line train struck him at the Belmont station prompting officials to shut down service in both directions.

The incident happened at around 8 a.m. and service stopped in both directions while Fire Department workers attended to the scene, according to reports.

Fire Department Chief Joe Roccosalva said the man was in his 40s and was pinned under the train for a time. CTA officials are reportedly bringing in another train to lift the stopped ‘El’ off the tracks.

No other information was available at this time.
