    David Hritz

A judge sentenced a suburban man to 90 days in jail Monday for assaulting his roommate and stabbing his pet bird.

David Hritz, 40, of Glendale Heights was found guilty of two counts of domestic battery and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals for the August 2012 incident.

Prosecutors say Hritz began beating his female roommate with his fists during an argument. He also threw his pet cockatiel against a wall before stabbing the bird with a knife, they say.

Hritz is expected to serve half of his sentence and two years of probation and is banned from owning any pets.
