Man On Crutches Tries Fleeing Cops

James Roesch tried to escape his trial hearing Tuesday by eluding police on crutches

Crutches didn't stop a 49-year-old man waiting for a bond hearing Tuesday to try and escape police.

James Roesch was being held for a burglary arrest trial at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse when he took off at 10 a.m., the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

During the chase, Roesch left the crutches behind and tried to escape on foot, but he didn't get far. Witnesses said he was caught and taken into custody soon after he got outside.

Roesch was arrested last week for residential burglary, according to a Cook County state's attorney's office spokesperson. Roesch is expected to be charged with attempted escape today.
