Man Dies After Being Struck By at Least 2 Cars in Lincolnwood

Police said the victim was apparently trying to catch a bus

A 19-year-old man has died after he was struck by at least two cars while crossing the street Monday morning in north suburban Lincolnwood, police said.

Rescue crews responding to a crash about 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Kostner and West Touhy avenues found the man lying in the street, having been struck by at least two cars, Lincolnwood Police Deputy Chief John Walsh said.

The victim was apparently trying to catch a bus and was already down when the cars hit him, Walsh said.

"Both drivers explained they were eastbound Touhy Avenue and did not see the pedestrian who was dressed in black and lying in the street," Walsh said in a statement.

It was not immediately known why the man was already lying in the street, but it is possible a third vehicle hit him and drove away, Walsh said. He was wearing black clothing and it was dark outside at the time.

He was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he later died, Walsh said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The drivers of the two cars stayed at the scene, but no citations had been issued as of 1:30 p.m. as police and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force investigate.
